RankWell A Higher Standard of Legal Distinction

How the Process Works

RankWell Legal evaluates each nomination through a defined, multi-step review sequence. The processis designed to apply consistent standards across all practice areas and categories, from solo practitioners to large firm attorneys.

Step 1

Nomination Submission

The process begins when a nomination is submitted through the RankWell Legal online nomination form. Nominations may be submitted by the attorney or firm being nominated (self-nomination) or by acolleague, client, or peer. All submissions are treated equally regardless of nomination source.

Step 2

Eligibility & Completeness Screening

Upon receipt, each submission undergoes an initial review to confirm eligibility and completeness. Submissions are checked against program requirements, including active bar membership, practice areaalignment, and adherence to professional conduct standards. Incomplete submissions are flagged andnominators are given an opportunity to provide missing information before the deadline.

Step 3

Independent Panel Review

Eligible nominations move to the RankWell Legal independent review panel for substantive evaluation. Panelists assess each submission against defined criteria specific to the nominated practice area andaward category. Panel members evaluate nominations independently, without knowledge of otherpanelists’ assessments, to prevent anchoring or group influence. The composition of the review panel isnot publicly disclosed in order to protect the integrity and independence of the process.

Step 4

Scoring & Comparative Evaluation

Each nomination is scored across multiple evaluation dimensions. Scores are aggregated and reviewedfor consistency. Where significant variance exists between reviewers, a secondary review is conducted.Nominations are then evaluated comparatively within each award category to ensure that recognitionstandards are applied uniformly.

Step 5

Final Selection & Determination

Final award determinations are made based on aggregated panel scores and deliberative review.RankWell reserves the right not to award recognition in any category if the panel determines thatsubmitted nominations do not meet the required standard of excellence. Selection decisions are finaland are not subject to appeal.

Step 6

Winner Notification &  Announcement

Selected honorees are notified directly by RankWell prior to public announcement. Honorees are giventhe opportunity to confirm their information and participate in optional recognition and promotionalprograms. Winners are announced publicly following the notification period.

Evaluation Criteria

Nominations are evaluated across five core dimensions. Specific weighting and sub-criteria vary byaward category and practice area, but the following framework applies consistently across the program.

Professional Excellence

Reviewers assess the depth and quality of the nominee’s legal expertise within their area of practice. This includes years of focused experience, the caliber of matters handled, professional credentials, and standing within the legal community.

Matter Significance

The nature and complexity of the legal work submitted in support of the nomination is considered, including the stakes involved, the sophistication of the legal issues presented, and the difficulty of the circumstances under which results were achieved.

Client Impact

Recognition reflects not just legal skill in the abstract, but its application to real outcomes for clients. Reviewers consider the results achieved, the quality of client relationships, and the demonstrated commitment to client interests.

Leadership & Contribution

The legal profession is strengthened by those who lead — within their firms, within the broader profession, and within their communities. Reviewers consider mentorship, bar leadership, pro bono commitment, and contributions to the development of the law.

Ethical Standing

Nominees are expected to be in good standing with their state bar and to have no material disciplinary history. Submissions that disclose significant ethical violations or regulatory sanctions will not advance in the review process.

Standards & Integrity

The credibility of RankWell Legal recognition depends entirely on the standards that govern how it is conferred. We hold ourselves to the same principles of transparency, accountability, and consistency that we expect from the professionals we recognize.

No Purchase Required for Selection

Selection as a RankWell Legal honoree is never contingent on the purchase of promotional materials, award packages, or advertising. Recognition is earned through merit.

No Voting or Popularity Mechanisms

RankWell Legal does not use public voting, peer solicitation campaigns, or social media engagement asfactors in selection. Recognition is not a function of network size, marketing spend, or the ability to mobilize votes. It reflects the quality of legal work and professional conduct as evaluated by independent reviewers.

Verified Submissions

Nominators are required to attest that the information provided in their submission is accurate andverifiable. RankWell reserves the right to conduct additional verification of claims made in nominations. Submissions found to contain materially inaccurate or misleading information will be disqualified, and the nominator may be barred from future participation.

Right to Decline Recognition

RankWell reserves the right to decline to confer recognition in any category in any program year if the panel determines that submitted nominations do not collectively meet the standard of excellence the program is designed to represent. This policy ensures that the program’s standards remain meaningful over time.

Non-Appealability of Decisions

All panel determinations are final. RankWell does not accept appeals, requests for reconsideration, or external challenges to selection decisions. This policy is necessary to protect the independence of the review process and the integrity of outcomes.

In a profession built on precedent and accountability, recognition should meet the same standard. Thatis the commitment behind every decision RankWell Legal makes.
